Paediatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with the health care of children and infants. The age group this medical science covers is from 0 to 18 years. The word ‘pediatrics’ itself means ‘healer of children’ as it has been derived from two Greek words viz. pais= child and iatros = doctor/healer. Paediatrics was not much known before the mid-19th century.
Paediatrics diagnose and treat several problems among children including
- Organ diseases
- Genetic and congenital conditions
Paediatrics is not just concerned with immediate measures and treatment of problems but also plays a great role in the long-term development of a child as well.
